Life Lab

Westlake Life Lab is our hands-on educational garden located behind the multi-purpose room. The program and garden has expanded over the past few years into an important part of our school and helps to augment curriculum being taught in the classroom by focusing on Hands-On Science lessons. We are privileged to have Jane Forbes as our Life Lab Coordinator. Please feel free to come wander our beautiful garden.

Parent Volunteer

Westlake is fortunate to be able to offer Life Lab to all students from Pre-K to 5th; however, it is simply not possible without the help of our parent community. Please consider joining our lively group of Life Lab Volunteers.

Classes

Volunteer to help with your own child’s class or take on one of your own! Training, support, and curriculum materials are available.

Garden Cart

Fridays 2-3 pm at the Kiosk. The Garden Cart is now in its 4th year and has become a popular shopping spot as well as our primary fundraiser throughout the year. We offer starter plants, fresh picked produce and flowers, garden items, gift baskets, logo wear, stepping stones, and handmade arts and crafts made by Westlake students and parents.

Garden Maintenance

If you have a passion for gardening, this is a great way to help out. We typically schedule several garden workdays throughout the year and work on weeding, pruning, planting, and special projects.

Tools and Supplies Needed

Donations are always welcome. The Life Lab can always use kid-sized shovels and gift cards from local garden supply stores, such as The Garden Company, San Lorenzo Garden Center, or OSH.

Funding

The Westlake Life Lab is supported by several groups including the Westlake PTA, Westlake Site Council, Life Lab Plant Sale, Grants, and Community and Parent Donations.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.
The second best time is today.
